# MRR movements

> The five ways MRR changes each month, and the customers behind each one.

Every change in MRR is one of these movements:

| Movement | What it means |
| - | - |
| **New** | A customer started paying for the first time. |
| **Expansion** | A paying customer moved to a bigger plan, added seats or lost a discount. |
| **Reactivation** | A customer who had cancelled started paying again. |
| **Contraction** | A paying customer moved to a smaller plan or removed seats. |
| **Churn** | A customer stopped paying. Their MRR is lost the month their paid term ends. |
| **Currency** | Exchange rates moved the US dollar value of a plan billed in another currency. |

**Net new MRR** is new + expansion + reactivation − contraction − churn, plus any currency change.

## The MRR bridge

On the **Overview**, **MRR bridge** walks from last month's MRR to this month's, one movement at a time. It follows the month pinned on the chart. Select a row to list its customers.

## The customers behind the change

Next to the bridge, **Customers behind the change** lists who moved MRR that month.

1. **Movement tabs.** Each tab shows how many customers it has. Sort by **Largest** or **Newest**. Select a customer for their full history.
2. **View all in Customers.** Opens the full list on [Customers](https://docs.onemrr.dev/analytics/customers.md).

## The Revenue movements page

**Revenue movements** shows every movement over your date range. Gains stack above the line and losses below, with net new MRR as a line. Group by **Month**, **Quarter** or **Year**.

Select a month to see each movement's customers and amount. Each link opens those customers.

Switch to **Table** for the numbers by period. Select any amount to see its customers. **Export CSV** downloads the table.

Below the chart, **Totals for the range** adds up each movement across the whole date range: how many customers, how much MRR, and the average per customer.
